It is almost a year that I have been using a “full frame” camera with sensor size of 35mm, Canon 1DS MII. And during this time, I almost did not use crop sensor camera, though I had a Canon 40D body with me. Recently, I got hold of Canon 7D body which was gifted to me by my friend who lives in USA.

So, I have started shooting with Canon 7D body with my Tamron 150-600mm lens. First thing I experienced while shooting using 7D was, I found the view finder so small! So small that, I could not locate the subject through it and had to see the subject with naked eye many times!

The second difference I found so far is, at the given shutter speed, say, 1/400s, I used to get many usable pictures ( reasonably sharp, non-blurry) while shooting handheld with Canon 1DS, and it had gone down considerably while shooting at the same shutter speed with 7D. Initially, I thought my hands are no longer steady enough. But then when I again used Canon 1DS, I found I am steady enough, nothing deteriorated.

Arguably, spotting and photographing Indian leopard seems to be one of the difficult tasks for wild life enthusiast as well as wild life photography beginners. According to me, it depends purely on luck, but then pushing your luck surely does help!

I drove my car almost for 5000KM in and around Udaipur in radius of 30KM, looking for a leopard sighting in anytime of the day since 2012. During that period, many of my friends in Udaipur, saw this elusive beauty in the wild, took photographs, posted in facebook and their facebook photography pages while I was still pushing my luck.

Finally, in October 2014, I took the plunge and went to Bera, Pali district of Rajasthan, which is approximately 140KM from Udaipur city. And finally, I could see one and could take some record photograph!

When Tamron launched its 150-600mm lens, we predicted that Sigma too will come out with their 500mm lens very soon. And finally, Sigma has come out with not one, but two 150-600mm lenses, one they call Sports while other one is called Contemporary. Apart from the naming, there are some differences in the lenses.

Canon has been giving discounts on its lenses for many days now. I think now it has made them permanent by announcing reduction of prices of its super telephoto lenses upto $1000. Well, it does not make a great news for many people like us as these $9000 lenses are still above our price range.

But most probably, this price reduction is result of recent success of Tamron 150-600mm which was selling like hot cakes by many new wild life bird photographers. Canon reduces maximum price on its 400mm, 500mm and 600mm prime lenses, by whopping $1000.
